feelin' the burn

yep...i agree, that's an absolutely ridiculous photo of me cooling things down after a workout...but i had no choice! i would've set the place on fire otherwise. i hope you're laughing because i sure as heck am. ROTFLMAO! (for those not in the know, that's what the instant message generation would be saying right now)

here's the 411 (or is there some newer nickname for "information" i should know about?). my energy levels are all over the road map. my refrigerator has nothing in it that resembles what's technically deemed "food." considering my diet, i'm sure my arteries hate me right now. so i'm doing something about it! there's a gym four blocks from me so i have no excuse.

wish me luck!

teaser

hey all! i've been shooting like crazy, which means now it's time to be editing like crazy. it will be a bit before you see a lot more images, but here's one for a taste of what's coming.

just a side note...i hated the look of this building as it was being constructed. it looked so plain and boring to me. ah, but that was the point! i finally realize how it was built to reflect the setting around it rather than draw attention to itself. don't get me wrong, nothing beats looking at the sky, but it's also amazing to see the sky reflected in so many different forms on this facade as you walk by from day to day.

come back for more about brian & audra as well as some shoots for other cool couples!

interactive blog header

hey all. i've been seeing some really cool headers on other blogs and decided it was time to create one for myself. this one is interactive though...so check it out! let me know how you like it! :)

edit: bear with me as it only works in safari and firefox for now.

shoot with beckstead

this is just a quick post to recap my shoot with beckstead experience. i posted earlier about the opportunity to attend this 2-day workshop and i'm extremely happy i did. i have a lot of things to catch up on so i'm going to leave you with a few images and come back later to write more about it and post even more shots. enjoy!

andrew & shannon

engagement session season is in full swing! i went to the coast last weekend to meet up with andrew and shannon. as i was approaching cannon beach, i wondered what the heck i was going to do this time. i've been out there a couple times and i like to keep things fresh with every shoot. the beach is the obvious "go to" spot, but the wind was enough to flip umbrellas inside out and the rain was...well, let's just say i'm happy my camera didn't short out. it forced us inland and it worked out perfectly!

we roamed around downtown, did some window shopping, found a coffee shop and found a bike to rent. andrew and shannon were really flexible and put up with the weather so well. they definitely helped turn this into some of my best work out there yet! everything else was perfect too. the clouds softened the light, window light made for great contrast in the coffee shop (which was perfectly moody inside), and the bike made for some fun compositions.

thanks for making it a fun day! looking forward to more fun at your wedding guys!

Greg & Connie

it's been a while since i posted any photos of my own (other than photos of cameras and coffee cups)! i finally had the chance to hang out with greg and connie a couple weekends ago while they were home from southern california. they called a long time ago and we chatted on the phone about me shooting they're wedding. everything was taken care of over the phone and online, which is nice, but definitely not the same as face time. so this was great!

we spent the afternoon roaming around the home of a family friend. i'm sure there was a lot of peeking out the window going on. :) it turned out to be a great location so thanks for letting us borrow it!

g & c, you are naturals in front of a camera and I'm really looking forward to your wedding!

Anyone want to...

...Shoot With Beckstead? I was following up on people I'd met at WPPI and I decided today I'd see what he was up to. He's been putting on a two day workshop loaded with shooting and bringing it to people all over the country.

I don't have to tell most of you how beautiful Oregon is. It's a place David would love. With that in mind, I thought I'd see what it might take to have him visit us in Portland. Guess what...I'm a little slow. He's already coming to Corvallis on April 14th-15th!

It's the kind of thing that I didn't expect to get into so I gave him a call just now to see if I could squeeze in. I found out that five of us can still sign up! I don't want to do what you think I'm gonna do, which is freak out, but...who's goin' with me?! (first to name the movie gets a bag of Stumptown coffee beans)

Twins

Look! Twins!!

Anyone using Google Reader probably thinks I'm talking about shooting the Budweiser Twins or something (you can't see the photo with google). Yeah right! Step one, get a desk. Step two, get someone to sit in it. I'll keep you posted!

Jim Garner

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Garner at WPPI in 2007. We've both been BIG Fans of BIG Folio because of the awesome work those guys do with websites. BIG Folio rented a house and called together some of their clients that were willing to help them out on the tradeshow floor. So it was there that I finally met Jim and Katarina.

I kept bumping into them during the week and I'd swear Jim copied my wardrobe. Don't worry though, I switched it up this year so there wouldn't be any jealousy. :)

This year, I sat in front of Jim and his crew at the awards banquet, and let's just say that made for a lot of commotion in that row! Congrats my friend! Afterwards, we were talking about the print and album competitions and he asked me why I didn't enter. I knew instantly from his tone, that it wasn't a question. It was a statement. I had chosen not to enter. Decision by indecision. No excuses about timing or wanting to, but not actually following through.

I blogged earlier about wanting to pay things forward, but needing an audience. What better way to create one than winning in the print and album competitions? That's easier said than done. Regardless, it's not going to happen if I don't enter! Thanks Jim!

PS - You MUST watch "The Studio" episodes posted on their blog!

A rare moment

Here's a shot from WPPI. That's a self portrait of me tellin a funny joke for the ladies. Yep, you read right. I said "funny." That, my friends, was a rare moment. :)

Kenny Kim

I decided I better start with Kenny Kim since I swiped that group photo from his blog. Thanks for the photoloan Kenny. ;)

I met Kenny because we, although at different times, attended the same workshop put on by Mike Colon. Kenny must not have slept. He was hanging out pretty much non-stop, yet if you check out his blog, you'll see he was documenting WPPI pretty much non-stop as well! FYI - get your scroll button ready...he is a blogging fiend. With work ethic like he's got, he's going somewhere great.

I met Kenny and so many others because we had one person in common. This is one of the reasons I think attending workshops is so important. We didn't even have to attend at the same time to still get to know each other. Think of the power of networking in that. And think beyond how you can benefit. For a long time, I've been helped so much by others that I want to do things to pay it forward. How do I do that without an audience? That has been my biggest question. Put yourself out there and great things will happen! The photo below is proof of that.

Dare I try this?!

I'm finally getting around to my WPPI recap blog post, but I didn't take very many pictures, nor am I in very many (I'm in the one above...but it's like playing "Where's Waldo". And no...please don't nickname me Waldo). So, how do I convey who I spent my time with? After all, I saw at least 75 friends (some new, some old).

My new goal has been to post one thing on my blog each day. But I'm thinking two will be better. One for myself, and one about a friend I spent time with in Vegas. I've gotten some blog love from them and it's time I returned it! This could take a couple of months! So...I better get started. :)

0001

and the winner is...

Jane Johnson! She guessed that the cameras behind the coffee cup were Mamiyas. One of them is, and that was the closest answer. Jane, if you're not a coffee drinker, by all means feel free to "regift" the beans coming your way. :)

I took that Mamiya out for a walkabout the other day and got stunning results on Ilford Delta 3200 black and white film (duh!). I'm sure it will find a way into my arsenal for clients wanting amazing enlargements.

I actually had the chance to meet Jane and her husband Josh at the Big Folio booth at WPPI (which I'll post more about tomorrow). It's one of those "small world" stories as it turns out they know one of my cousins and have been at a couple of weddings I've shot. They have big hearts for others so be sure to check out their blog and their website if your looking for some inspiration in that part of your life. :)
