New Web Image

Every once in a while I update the images that first display on my website. I also am looking forward to gallery updates after a lot of incredible weddings last season.

The shot above is one that I took while helping Brian Beazely shoot a wedding at the Gerding Theater. Lately, I've been drawn to really moody lighting and this was an amazing location for it. It's one of those places where a photographer wishes he had an entire day on location with models. Hmm....

I'm also updating the music on the site so stay tuned. (oops...bad pun...I really didn't mean it this time)

Studio Tour!

Hey all,

Just wanted to give you a quick preview of the new studio! I still have a lot of decorating to do...unless you like blank walls. :)

The entry is right on the sidewalk which is perfect so people won't have to "buzz in" and go through a lobby. There's a shot of a "living room" type setting where I plan to meet clients and display images much more comfortably than in a coffee shop. There's a nice kitchen for entertaining and serving hors d'ouvres...I'd serve steak, but that adds up! The room with the table will be used for business matters and album displays. And finally, there's the office where all the editing and design will take place. There's room enough for an assistant as well, which should greatly improve my efficiency. :)

I hope you like it and that you get to swing by sometime!

Apple TV - A Photographer's Dream

As many of you know, I've been working feverishly (hah, consequently I do indeed have a fever today) on developing a new studio space. One of the main components, as with many of our studios, is an effective way to showcase content beyond the use of albums and enlargements.

Post-event slideshows and digital proofing sessions are just two things that have become more and more common. As such, photographers have some pretty demanding needs in size and quality of their digital output. We've all tried so many things, either difficult, time consuming, or relatively cluttered with computers and cables tethered to our TVs.

Enter Apple TV! It has Ethernet and Wi-Fi connection. It syncs with OR streams all music, podcasts, and movies in your iTunes Library, syncs with OR streams iPhoto content. This means no time spent creating slideshows, burning discs, hooking up your computer, etc. And best of all...it has HDMI output resolution up to 1080p!

I'll let you know how well it works through regular usage, but so far, it's been a piece of cake and looks great!

TV, after a year without...

Wow! I never realized how much I wasn't missing (yeah, you may have to read that twice). As part of my new studio development, I've set up a new television to display images and slideshows during client meetings.

I decided it would be good for me to plug back in with the world by starting the day with a half hour of news. Here's what I remember of what I saw...

Something about Iran's alleged and quite possibly real pursuit of nuclear weapons development. News? Hah!

Bitter cold weather in the Midwest. Duh!

Jane Skinner flirting with her co-anchor.

And the biggest impression was made by the advertisements. I've never felt so "sold to." It was ridiculous! It was like giving up sugar for so long that the first time you have it you start bouncing off the walls.

I'd love to write more, but I'm off to go visit my doctor about eight different prescriptions, invest in some gold coins, and get a free car (for 36 months anyway). :)

PS - The full setup of the studio isn't quite finished yet, so it will be a little longer before I can give a full tour.

Chris & Katie Torres: 6 of Four Creations

Recently I was blessed with the opportunity to shoot a wedding in the Dominican Republic. Hence the picture below...Kathy wins the guessing contest. The competition was tough Kathy...way to go! ;)

On the way back I had an overnight layover in Atlanta where I know a few photographers so I called Chris and Katie that afternoon. I thought it was really cool that they'd make time for me on such short notice. Thanks guys! Chris even gave me a personalized tour of downtown ATL on the way back to my hotel. I forgot to call everyone else I knew in Atlanta which is a bummer...sorry guys! Hopefully I'll see you at the WPPI Convention.

It was especially nice of them to do for me considering all that they have going on. Check out Recapture to see what they'll be up to in Thailand for the next couple of weeks. I'm excited for them!

PS - If I look a little funny in the picture, it's because I was the only one with long enough arms to take it, and I had to fumble with a Nikon. ;)
